Basic guide to start trading with Metatrader 5.

Overview

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is a robust trading platform designed for fast and precise order execution across multiple asset classes. It offers advanced charting tools, real-time market data, and supports efficient trading strategies, making it ideal for both beginner and experienced traders.


Getting Started

When you join Hyperion Markets and create an account—whether it's a Demo, ECN, ECN Premium, or Standard account—you'll have the option to choose a MetaTrader 5 (MT5) account to start trading. In our upcoming guide, we’ll walk you through logging into the platform and provide a basic overview of how this powerful trading platform operates.


Step 1: Setting your MetaTrader 5 account.

Once you proceed to create your trading account (Follow these steps to create your Trading account in Hyperion Markets), you will receive an email from Hyperion Markets confirming that your account has been successfully created and credentials will be provided.

In the email, you will also have the available trading terminals for MT5.

With your preferred MT5 terminal downloaded or the web version started, you'll be able to access it with the provided credentials.

Step 2: Getting to Know the MT5 Terminal


Change the chart colors

Right-click on the chart and select Properties, or press F8. This will open a section where you can fully customize your MetaTrader settings to your preference.


Change the layout

If you want to view the charts of multiple instruments simultaneously, just make sure the Market Watch panel is open. To do this, go to View > Market Watch or press Ctrl + M. Then, right-click on the instrument you want and select Chart Window. Repeat this process for each instrument.

To see them all in a single window, click the following icon:

How to open trades

  1. Orders from the Chart Window
    Right-click on the chart and select "Trading" > "New Order." This will open a window where you can specify the order type, volume, Stop Loss, and Take Profit levels.

  2. "New Order" Button in the Toolbar
    Click the "New Order" button in the top toolbar, which will open a window to configure the order.

  3. From the "Market Watch" Panel
    Double-click on the asset in the "Market Watch" panel.

  4. Pending Orders
    Choose the pending order type (Buy Limit, Sell Limit, Buy Stop, Sell Stop) in the order window.

  5. Keyboard Shortcuts
    Press F9 to quickly open a new order.

These options allow you to open trades according to your strategy and preferences.


Setting up stop loss and take profit

  1. When Opening a New Order

    • In the "New Order" window, enter your Stop Loss and Take Profit levels before placing the trade.

  2. Modifying Active Orders

    • Right-click on an active order in the "Terminal" panel and select "Modify or Delete Order" to adjust Stop Loss or Take Profit.

  3. Dragging on the Chart

    • Drag the order line on the chart up or down to adjust Stop Loss or Take Profit directly.

  4. Mobile Shortcuts (MT5 Mobile)

    • Open the position, select “Modify Order,” and set the levels as desired.


Adding Indicators

To add indicators in MetaTrader 5:

  1. Insert Menu: Go to Insert > Indicators from the top menu, select a category (e.g., trend, oscillators), and choose the indicator.

  2. Navigator Panel: Press Ctrl + N to open the Navigator, find Indicators, and drag it to the chart.

  3. Right-click on Chart: Right-click, select Indicators, and choose from the list


Useful shortcuts for navigation

Utilize the following shortcuts to navigate efficiently:

  • Market Watch: Press Ctrl + M to open or close the Market Watch panel.

  • Navigator: Ctrl + N opens the Navigator to access accounts, indicators, and EAs.

  • New Order: F9 opens the order window for quick trade entry.

  • Chart Fullscreen: F11 toggles fullscreen mode for charts.

  • Switch Between Charts: Use Ctrl + Tab to cycle through open charts.

  • Terminal: Ctrl + T opens the Terminal for trade management.
